48h Stunden Rom genügen nicht um diese wundervolle Stadt zu entdecken. Aber ein Anfang ist es allemal. Total begeistert und verliebt in diesen traumhaften Ort möchte ich euch heute ein paar Tipps verraten, die ihr unbedingt umsetzen und ausprobieren müsst. Damit ihr die zwei Tage voll und ganz auskosten könnt, müsst ihr auf jeden Fall früh aufstehen. So umgeht ihr nämlich die endlosen Warteschlangen bei den Sehenswürdigkeiten. Wir haben uns um ca. 8.00 Uhr in der Früh auf den Weg gemacht und trotzdem war schon einiges los auf den alten Straßen von Rom.
48h hours Rome are not enough time to visit this wonderful city. But it’s always a start. Today I would like to share a few tips with you that you absolutely must do and try. If you are in Rome for such a short time you have to get up super early. So you bypass the endless queues at the sights. We went out around 8 am in the morning and still there was a lot going on on the old Roman streets.
1. Eine oder mehrere Münzen in den Trevi Brunnen werfen
Der Trevi Brunnen ist der wohl berühmteste Brunnen weltweit und steht im Zentrum von Rom. Das 50 Meter breite und 26 Meter hohe Monument verdankt seinem Namen den Strassen, da bei diesem Brunnen im alten Rom drei Strassen aufeinandertrafen: “tre vie” – also drei Strassen – später wurde es zu “Trevi”. Es ist nicht nur ein gewaltiger Brunnen, der mit Meeresgöttern, Pferden und Fabelwesen ausgestattet ist, sondern lässt der Legende nach Wünsche wahr werden, wenn eine Münze hineingeworfen wird.
Der Wurf der Münze will übrigens gekonnt sein. Das Ritual sieht vor, dass man die Münze mit der linken Hand über die rechte Schulter hinweg ins Brunnenwasser wirft.
Eine Münze bedeutet, dass man in die ewige Stadt zurückkehrt.
Zwei Münzen bedeuten, dass man sich in eine Italienerin oder einen Italiener verlieben möchte.
Drei Münzen bedeuten, dass man seine Liebste oder seinen Liebsten heiraten wird.
Ratet, wie viele Münzen ich da reingeworfen habe! 😉
1. Throw one or more coins into the Trevi Fountain
The Trevi Fountain is probably the most famous fountain in the world and is located in the center of Rome. The 50 meters wide and 26 meters high monument owes its name to the streets, because at this fountain in ancient Rome three roads met: “tre vie” – three streets – later it became “Trevi”. It’s not only a huge fountain filled with sea gods, horses, and mythical creatures, but legend says that it is a magical place where wishes come true if you throw a coin into it.
By the way it’s not only throwing a coint into it. You have to know how to let the magic happen. The ritual involves throwing the coin into the fountain water with the left hand over the right shoulder.
One coin means that you return to the eternal city.
Two coins mean that you want to fall in love with an Italian.
Three coins mean that you will marry your sweetheart or your loved one you are there with.
Guess how many coins I threw in there! 😉
2. Das Geschehen auf der belebten Piazza Navona beobachten
Schon die alten Römer haben an diesem historischen Platz Stunden vorbeiziehen lassen und das Geschehen beobachtet. Bevor der Platz wie wir ihn heute kennen entstand, wurde im Jahre 86 v.Chr. von Kaiser Domitian das Stadion Circus Agonalis erbaut. In diesem Stadion fanden Sportwettkämpfe und andere Veranstaltungen statt. Nach dem Verfall des Circus Agonalis hinterliess er einen rechteckigen Platz, der von Ruinen umgeben war und heute Häuser daraus erbaut wurden. Die Form des Stadions ist daher immernoch dieselbe und ein cooler Platz um an Strassenmalern und Händlern vorbeizuschlendern und den ein oder anderen Happen zu essen. Zudem erwarten euch 3 Springbrunnen, welche die vier Kontinente repräsentieren. Ein belebter Platz im Zentrum der Stadt, den ihr auf jeden Fall besuchen müsst.
2. Take a minute and enjoy the happening on the Piazza Navona
Already the old Romans let hours pass by at this historical place and observed the happening. Before the place as we know it today, the Emperor Domitian built the stadium Circus Agonalis in 86 BC. Sports competitions and other events took place in this stadium. After the collapse of the Circus Agonalis, he left a rectangular square surrounded by ruins and houses were built today. The form of the stadium is therefore still the same and a nice place to walk around and see street painters, traders and have a seat in one of the cute coffeeshops. There are also 3 fountains representing the four continents. A busy square in the city center which you definitely need to visit.
3. Im architektonischen Meisterwerk dem Pantheon schätzen, wie gross der Kuppel-Durchmesser ungefähr ist
Von aussen sehr unscheinbar, aber für mich ein absolutes Must ist der Besuch im einstigen Heiligtum aller Gottheiten und dem grössten Bauwerk Roms. Ursprünglich war das Pantheon ein herkömmlicher Tempel. ‘Pan’ steht für Alles und ‘theos’ für Gott. Damit wurde der Tempel allen von den Römern verehrten Göttern geweiht. Nun zur Auflösung, die prachtvolle Kuppel hat einen Durchmesser von 43 m, eine Höhe von 24 m und ist in der Mitte geöffnet und ist derzeit eine der größten selbstragenden Kuppeln der Welt, die aus Betonguss gefertigt wurde.
3. In the architectural masterpiece the Pantheon estimate how big the dome diameter is
From the outside it seems very inconspicuous, but an absolute must for me is the visit of the former sanctuary of all deities and the largest building in Rome. Originally, the Pantheon was a traditional temple. ‘Pan’ stands for everything and ‘theos’ for God. Thus the temple was dedicated to all gods worshiped by the Romans. Now to the solution, the magnificent dome has a diameter of 43 m, a height of 24 m and is open in the middle and is currently one of the largest self-supporting dome in the world made of concrete casting.
4. Spatziergang über die Engelsbrücke
Damals galt die Engelsbrücke als schönste Brücke der Antike. Ich bin begeistert von den 10 Engelsstatuen, welche die Brücke schmücken und euch vom Stadtzentrum zum Grabmal führen. Auf dem Tiber geniesst ihr eine schöne Aussicht und könnt das Gefühl, welche schon unzählige Pillger vor uns hatten, nachvollziehen. Klingt das komisch?
4. Walk over the Angel Bridge
Some time ago the Angel Bridge was the most beautiful bridge of antiquity. I love the 10 angel statues that adorn the bridge and take you from the city center to the tomb. On the Tiber you can enjoy a beautiful view and can retrace the feeling, which countless Pillger before us had. Does that sound strange?
5. Führung durch den Vatikan
Ich behaupte mal, dass der Vatikan zum Pflichtprogramm, vorallem beim ersten Besuch in Rom gehört. Ich weiss gar nicht wo anfangen, da wäre der Petersplatz, der Petersdom, die sixtinische Kapelle und die vatikanischen Museen. Ich glaube ihr seid gut bedient, wenn ihr euch am morgen früh auf den Weg macht und eine geführte Tour mit allen wichtigen Infos erhaltet. Ihr könnt euch aber auch gerne vorinfomieren und die 3-Stündige Tour beschleunigen, indem ihr nur die Dinge anschaut, die euch interessieren. Kleiner Tipp, kauft das Ticket vorher und unbedingt Früh hingehen. Am Sonnag ist der Vatikan geschlossen.
5. Guided tour through the Vatican
The Vatican is a must, especially when you visit Rome for the first time. I do not know where to start, there would be St. Peter’s Square, St. Peter’s Basilica, the Sistine Chapel and the Vatican Museums. I think you are well served when you leave early in the morning and get a guided tour with all the important information. Feel free to perform yourself and speed up the 3-hour tour by looking only at the things you are interest in. Little tip, buy the ticket before and necessarily go early. On Sundays the Vatican is closed.
6. Aussicht geniessen auf dem Petersdom
Nach 551 Stufen geniesst ihr auf dem Petersdom eine traumhafte Weitsicht über die Italienische Hauptstadt. MUST! MUST! MUUUUST! Wer den Aufzug nimmt, muss trotzdem noch 320 Stufen erklimmen. Der anstrengende Aufstieg wird auf jeden Fall belohnt. Wir hatten Glück und mussten überhaupt nicht lange anstehen.
6. Enjoy the view on St. Peter’s Basilica
After 551 steps, you will enjoy a breathtaking view of the Italian capital on St. Peter’s Basilica. MUST! MUST! MUUUUST! If you take the elevator, you still have to climb 320 steps. The exhausting climb will be rewarded in any case. We were lucky and did not have to queue for too long.
7. Bild vor dem Kolosseum
Wer Rom besucht, muss unbedingt ein Bild vor dem grössten Amphitheater der Welt schiessen. Das Wahrzeichen der Stadt galt früher als Austragungsort der brutalen Gladiatorenkämpfe, welche zur Unterhaltung und Belustigung dienten. Heute bzw. ab dem Jahr 1999 steht das Kolosseum als Monument gegen die Todesstrafe. Immer wenn ein Todesurteil ausgesetzt wird oder ein Staat dieser Welt die Todesstrafe abschafft, wird das Kolosseum 48 Stunden lang in bunten Farben angestrahlt. Irgendwie komisch wenn man bedenkt wie viele Menschen und Tiere da gestorben sind. By the way, das grösste Amphitheater diente als Vorbild vieler Stadien, wie wir sie heute und schon damals kannten. Bemerkenswert diese Römer!
Also unbedingt ein Selfie machen! Der beste Platz ist meiner Meinung nach im Forum Romanum. Falls ihr ins Kolosseum wollt, solltet ihr früh losgehen und so die langen Warteschlangen umgehen. Ein Fast-Lane Ticket ist nicht erforderlich.
7. Take some pictures in front of the Colosseum
If you visit Rome you must necessarily take a picture in front of the largest amphitheater in the world. The landmark of the city was once considered the venue of the gladiatorial fights, which served for entertainment and amusement. Today or from the year 1999, the Colosseum stands as a monument against the death penalty. Whenever a death sentence is imposed or a state of the world abolishes the death penalty, the Colosseum is illuminated for 48 hours in bright colors. Somehow weird considering how many people and animals died there. By the way, the largest amphitheater served as a model of many stadiums, as we know them today and even then. Remarkable these Romans!
So take a selfie! The best place in my opinion is in the Forum Romanum. If you want to go into the Colosseum, make sure to go early and avoid the long queues. A fast-lane ticket is not required.
8. Spatziergang durchs Forum Romanum
Das Forum Romanum ist das älteste römische Forum und war der Mittelpunkt des politischen, wirtschaftlichen, kulturellen und religiösen Lebens und ist heute eine der wichtigsten Ausgrabungsstätten des antiken Roms. Wie wohl schon tausendende Menschen vor mir finde ich den Gedanken und das Gefühl dort zu sein, wo so viel passiert ist, spannend. Deshalb empfehle ich euch unbedingt, einen Spatziergang durchs Forum zu machen. Lasst euch von der Stimmung und dem historischen Hintergrund fesseln und stellt euch vor, wie es wohl war im antiken Rom.
8. Walk through the Forum Romanum
The Forum Romanum, the oldest Roman forum, was the center of political, economic, cultural and religious life and is today one of the most important archaeological sites in ancient Rome. As well as thousands of people before me, I like the thought and the feeling of being there where so much happend and took place. Therefore, I strongly recommend you to take a walk through the forum. Be captivated by the mood and the historical background and imagine what it was like in ancient Rome.
9. Pasta essen im La Carbonara
Pizza – Pasta – Rom, gehört irgendwie zusammen, nicht? Ich lieeeeebe die italienische Küche! Wo könnte man besser essen als in Rom selbst? Wir haben uns in das Restaurant La Carbonara verliebt. Schaut auch unbedingt vorbei und verliebt euch in dieses süsse Restaurant, wo zahlrieche Einheimische verweilen. Absoluter Geheimtipp!

10. Gelato schlecken und Kaffee trinken
Neben Pasta und Pizza gehört auch ein Kaffee und ein Eis dazu! Denkt aber daran, ein Espresso in Italien ist nicht gleich ein Espresso wie wir ihn bei uns kennen. Er ist so oder so viel stärker, aber hey, wenn man schon da ist, sollte man es trotzdem ausprobieren. Am besten in einem der unzähligen Kaffees rund um den Piazza Navona. Gelato schlecken und in den Gassen herumschlendern könnt ihr überall. Perfekte Beschäftigung für zwischendurch.
10. Enjoy some gelato and drink coffee
In addition to pasta and pizza a stay in Rome also includes a coffee and an ice cream! But remember, an espresso in Italy is not the same as an espresso we know it here. It’s way stronger but hey, if you’re already there you should try it anyway. The best is to stay in one of the countless coffees around Piazza Navona. Enjoy a gelato and stroll around the city. Perfect thing to do on a warm day.
